The New Verbo Bluefields Orphanage Home
Seven Rescued Children are being nurtured and cared for at the first and only orphanage home in the southeast coast city of Bluefields, Nicaragua. We’ve partnered with Pastor Ed Jaentschke of Verbo Church, Bluefields, to serve the abandoned and orphaned children in this community of abject poverty. Pastor Ed is a long time resident of Bluefields and has been working with ORPHANetwork to serve vulnerable children through his Life Changing Local Church Initiative since 2007; he knows first hand the needs of the children and the community.
Bluefields is a port city with a beautiful landscape, but life there isn’t easy; it is home to approximately 60,000 people and unemployment and underemployment is easily 60%. Children who’ve been abandoned or orphaned have had nowhere to seek refuge until now.
Building upon the foundation of shelter, food, faith and education, the Verbo Bluefields home will provide ORPHANetwork’s core services – English, Computer, Life Skills, and Music education classes – all of which create better opportunities for these children who would otherwise be fending for themselves on the streets or in garbage dump communities.
Gathering to inaugurate and dedicate the home were many members of the community along with the regional head of Mi Familia (the government agency that acts similarly to US social services), the assistant mayor, the head of police and other dignitaries. Bob Trolese, founder of Verbo Ministries, opened the dedication by speaking to the need for the community to help raise children living on the streets. Our own Eddy Morales, who spent a significant time of his life growing up in Bluefields, under Pastor Ed and his wife, Ligia’s guidance, gave an incredibly powerful evangelical talk. He challenged everyone there to make their earthly and eternal life count by making a real difference in the life of a vulnerable child.
If you would like to make a personal difference in the life of one of the rescued children at the orphanage home, please contact Katie Donahue to learn about our child sponsorship program. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 757-333-7200.
A Chicago family’s generous gift made the construction of the home possible. The gift was given to ORPHANetwork in memory of their daughter, Cori, who passed away at the early age of 25. There is a lovely photo and tribute to her at the home; her memory was beautifully honored at the dedication as well.
