ORPHANetwork’s Nutritionist, Flavia Urbina, works closely with over 160 new and expectant mothers in 18 of our Life Changing Local Church Initiatives. In 2013 she identified a need to educate, equip, and empower mothers to prevent malnourishment in their babies and young children. Flavia and Medical Director, Janice Hebbert, designed a program that not only addresses health and nutrition, but it also teaches women about their rights and empowers them to prevent abusive situations. The participants in the program, or club as it is referred to, have formed strong bonds with each other. Many of the women have developed a relationship with their local church and with the Lord!

In honor of Mother’s Day, we’d like to share with you a few testimonies from some of the women impacted by this empowering program:

“I like coming to the club because it helps me not feel alone and I feel supported by the leaders…the prenatal vitamins were a big help because I did not have enough money
to buy healthy food items throughout my pregnancy.”

“In the club I’ve learned how to be a better mother. I learned about the health benefits of breastmilk, and I’ve been breastfeeding my daughter since her birth. My relationship with God and my family has improved.”

We would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to each and every woman in our ORPHANetwork family! It is often said that a mother’s love is the closest representation of God’s love on earth. Thank you for sharing the Love of Christ with our children in Nicaragua. Happy Mother’s Day!
