#GivingTuesday will empower the children served in our After School Education Program to break the cycle of poverty.

BETTER EDUCATED GIRLS AND WOMEN TEND TO:
- be healthier
- participate more in the formal labor market,
- earn higher incomes
- have fewer children
- marry at a later age, and
- enable better healthcare and education for their children, should they choose to become mothers.
All these factors combined can help lift households, communities, and nations out of poverty.
Why – Nicaragua has the highest pupil-teacher ration and least qualified teacher workforce in Latin America. Less than 48% of children complete the sixth grade and for those living in extreme poverty, the odds are reduced to just 21%. Public schools lack sufficient resources to provide children with a well-rounded education and attend to each child’s needs.

WHAT WE ARE DOING ABOUT IT
Our after school program provides students from first through sixth grade with two additional hours of learning each school day, equaling ten extra hours of learning per week. Children experience a hands-on, collaborative, learning that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving. Most importantly, we work to form their character based on Biblical values. We also offer parent workshops, which help include and direct parents who have little to no education themselves. Our goal is not only to help children succeed in school, but to equip them with the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty.

“My grades have improved and I have learned the multiplication tables because of this reinforcement program.”
– Gerald, 4th grade, age 10
Always one of the first to arrive to the after school program, second grader Melissa has improved her reading, writing, math and self-confidence – all skills this 7 year old girl struggled greatly with before starting the program earlier this year.
This year, our goal is to raise a total of $40,000 to support and advance our After School Education Program. This money will be used for teacher salaries, books and classroom materials for our students.
Every dollar counts towards empowering our Nicaraguan children to break cycles of poverty by equipping them with a foundational education.
